Boys Volleyball has been growing in popularity in the region over the past few decades.  It is now a high school varsity sport in at least 2 NoVA counties.

Grade 9 to 12

In 2024, the Fairfax and Alexandria Schools Boards approved plans to start high school boys volleyball programs.  During the Fall 2024 season, 28 high schools ran their first year varsity boys volleyball in Northern Virginia which was a resounding success.

Over the next few years, additional schools and junior varsity programs are expected to expand the sport.

The High School Varsity volleyball season is in the Fall with tryouts in August. During the fall 2024 season, many schools had rosters as large as 25 boys.  Only those attending the school can be placed on a roster.

Grades 4 to 8

Since 2016, elementary and middle school boys have the opportunity to play competitive volleyball in the NoVA Boys Volleyball League. The "travel" league is made up of teams from regional youth sports organization including 

• Arlington Youth Volleyball (AYV)
• Chantilly Youth (CYA) Volleyball
• Braddock Road Youth (BRYC) Volleyball
• McLean Youth (MYA) Volleyball
• Reston Volleyball
• Vienna Youth (VYI) Volleyball.  

Similar to high school boys volleyball, the NoVA Boys League is run during the Fall season.  Players register directly with a regional youth sports organization.  Practices take place at local gyms with matches at different host gyms in the region.

Club Volleyball

Boys also have the opportunity to play competitive volleyball  on club teams during the winter and spring seasons. Most teams travel to boys volleyball tournaments throughout the Mid-Atlantic.

• No Panic VBC
• St. James VBC

Team tryouts are always in November with the competitive season running from December through May/June.
